Learn some important English Words

Part - 3

1) subside:

Become less intense, violent, strong or severe

If something so severe becomes less severe we say it subsides. To become calmer or quieter.

Example:

The examination postponed until the coronavirus pandemic subsides.

Tamil meaning:

subside = குறைகிற, அடங்கு, தணி

உதாரணம்:

கொரொனா வைரஸ் தொற்றுநோய் குறையும் வரை தேர்வு ஒத்திவைக்கப்பட்டது.

2) complacency:

Feeling of self-satisfaction despite any dangerous

Feeling of satisfaction even though there is danger outside by being unawareness of that danger or neglecting the danger.

Example:

Careless behaviour of people and complacency are leading to a spike in COVID - 19

Tamil meaning:

complacency = மனநிறைவு

உதாரணம்:

மக்களின் கவனக்குறைவான நடத்தை மற்றும் மனநிறைவு COVID - 19 இன் (கொரோனா வைரஸ் நோய்) அதிகரிப்புக்கு வழிவகுக்கிறது.

3) indulge:

To allow yourself to have or do something that you desire, especially something that may be bad for you

Example:

Indulge in tasty food without leaving your car.

Tamil meaning:

indulge = ஈடுபடு, அனுபவி

உதாரணம்:

உங்கள் காரை விட்டு வெளியேறாமல் சுவையான உணவை அனுபவியுங்கள்.

4) impose:

To officially force a rule, tax, punishment, etc. on someone to be obeyed or received

If one law is imposed means it has introduced as a law and every citizen of that country must obey it.

Example:

State government cannot impose local lockdown without prior consultation with Centre Government.

Tamil meaning:

impose = சுமத்துதல் (வரி), திணித்தல், விதித்தல்

உதாரணம்:

மத்திய அரசின் முன் ஆலோசனை இல்லாமல் மாநில அரசுகள் உள்ளூர் ஊரடங்கை விதிக்க முடியாது

5) defy:

to refuse to obey or show respect for somebody or something in authority, a law, a rule, etc.

Example:

Government threatens to imprison doctors who defy return-to-work order.

Tamil meaning:

defy = மீறு, எதிர்த்து நில்,

உதாரணம்:

வேலைக்குத் திரும்புவதற்கான உத்தரவை மீறும் மருத்துவர்களை சிறையில் அடைப்பதாக அரசாங்கம் அச்சுறுத்துகிறது.

6) mainstream:

The ideas and opinions (also people, parties, etc.) that are considered normal because they are accepted by most people

Example:

Pakistan has always abused mainstream political parties of Jammu and Kashmir.

Tamil meaning:

mainstream = முக்கிய

உதாரணம்:

ஜம்மு-காஷ்மீரின் முக்கிய அரசியல் கட்சிகளை பாகிஸ்தான் எப்போதும் துஷ்பிரயோகம் செய்து வருகிறது.

7) prominent:

Well known and important

Example:

Six prominent mainstream political parties came together for restoration of Article 370.

Tamil meaning:

Prominent = பிரபலமான நன்கு அறியப்பட்ட

உதாரணம்:

பிரிவு 370 ஐ மீட்டமைக்க ஆறு பிரபலமான முக்கிய அரசியல் கட்சிகள் ஒன்று சேர்ந்தன.

8) minuscule:

Extremely small, very small

Example:

India’s share in the Rs.7-lakh crore global toy market is minuscule.

Tamil meaning:

minuscule = மிகக் குறைவான

உதாரணம்:

ரூபாய் 7 லட்சம் கோடி உலகளாவிய பொம்மை சந்தையில் இந்தியாவின் பங்கு மிகக் குறைவு.

9) laud:

To praise, to extol

To praise somebody or something.

Example:

Mr.Modi lauded the citizens for maintaining unprecedented restraint and simplicity in celebrating festivals during the pandemic.

Tamil meaning:

laud = பாராட்டு, புகழ்ந்து பேசு

உதாரணம்:

தொற்றுநோய்களின் போது பண்டிகைகளை கொண்டாடுவதில் முன்னோடியில்லாத கட்டுப்பாடு மற்றும் எளிமையைக் கடைப்பிடித்ததற்காக திரு. மோடி குடிமக்களைப் பாராட்டினார்.

10) restraint:

The act of controlling and being calm behaving such a manner as it is necessary

Example:

Mr.Modi lauded the citizens for maintaining unprecedented restraint and simplicity in celebrating festivals during the pandemic.

Tamil meaning:

restraint = கட்டுப்பாடு, அடக்கம்

உதாரணம்:

தொற்றுநோய்களின் போது பண்டிகைகளை கொண்டாடுவதில் முன்னோடியில்லாத கட்டுப்பாடு மற்றும் எளிமையைக் கடைப்பிடித்ததற்காக திரு. மோடி குடிமக்களைப் பாராட்டினார்.

11) reiterate:

To repeat something again and again especially to emphasize it

To say something repeatedly because it is important.

Example:

The Police Department is reiterating the importance of personal and home safety and security precautions.

Tamil meaning:

reiterate = மீண்டும் வலியுறுத்து

உதாரணம்:

தனிப்பட்ட மற்றும் வீட்டு பாதுகாப்பு மற்றும் பாதுகாப்பு முன்னெச்சரிக்கைகளின் முக்கியத்துவத்தை காவல் துறை மீண்டும் வலியுறுத்தி வருகிறது.

12) mettle:

the ability and determination to do something successfully despite difficulties

Example:

The PM praised farmers for providing their mettle during the pandemic.

Tamil meaning:

mettle = தைரியமிக்க, ஊக்கமான, உற்சாகமான

உதாரணம்:

தொற்றுநோய்களின் போது விவசாயிகள் தங்கள் ஊக்கத் திறனை வழங்கியதற்காக பிரதமர் பாராட்டினார்.

13) impart:

To give or convey knowledge or quality to someone, to pass on information to someone

Example:

The prime minister appreciated the role of the teachers in imparting education through technology and innovation.

Tamil meaning:

impart = வழங்கு, கொடு, சொல்லிக்கொடு, பங்களி

உதாரணம்:

தொழில்நுட்பம் மற்றும் புதுமை மூலம் கல்வியை வழங்குவதில் ஆசிரியர்களின் பங்கை பிரதமர் பாராட்டினார்.

14) contract:

To get something, especially an illness or virus

Example:

Initially, the fear of contracting the virus was very high. Now it has reduced.

Tamil meaning:

contract = தொற்று

உதாரணம்:

ஆரம்பத்தில், வைரஸ் தொற்றும் என்ற பயம் மிக அதிகமாக இருந்தது. இப்போது அது குறைந்துவிட்டது.

15) invincible:

Impossible or too strong to defeat

Example:

People feel invincible because the risk of contracting COVID -19 keeps increasing.

Tamil meaning:

invincible = தோற்கடிக்க இயலாத, வெல்லமுடியாத

உதாரணம்:

COVID -19 தொற்றும் அபாயம் அதிகரித்து வருவதால் மக்கள் வெல்லமுடியாததாக உணர்கிறார்கள்.

16) evoke:

To bring a feeling into your mind

Example:

Trump's White House rally fails to evoke adulation from stony-faced reporters.

Tamil meaning:

evoke = தூண்டுதல்

உதாரணம்:

டிரம்பின் வெள்ளை மாளிகை பேரணி கல் முகம் கொண்ட செய்தியாளர்களிடமிருந்து பாராட்டுகளைத் தூண்டத் தவறிவிட்டது.

17) diagnose:

To recognize exact nature of an illness or the cause of a problem by examining

Example:

Boseman was diagnosed with colon cancer four years ago.

Tamil meaning:

diagnose = கண்டறி, ஆராய்ந்தறி

உதாரணம்:

போஸ்மேனுக்கு நான்கு ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்பு பெருங்குடல் புற்றுநோயிருப்பதாக கண்டறியப்பட்டது.

18) SOP:

SOP stand for Standard Operating Procedure.

a set of step-by-step instructions compiled by an organization to help workers carry out complex routine operations

Example:

Health ministry is developing SOPs for parliament and the Legislative assemply sessions.

Tamil meaning:

SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) = சீர்தர இயக்கச் செய்முறை, நிலையான இயக்க முறைமை

சிக்கலான வழக்கமான நடவடிக்கைகளை மேற்கொள்ள தொழிலாளர்களுக்கு உதவ ஒரு நிறுவனத்தால் தொகுக்கப்பட்ட படிப்படியான வழிமுறைகளின் தொகுப்பு

உதாரணம்:

பாராளுமன்றம் மற்றும் சட்டப்பேரவை கூட்டங்களுக்கான சுகாதார அமைச்சகம் சீர்தர இயக்கச் செய்முறைகளை உருவாக்கி வருகிறது.

19) protocol:

The system of rules and acceptable behaviour used at official meetings and occasions

Example:

Govt lays out safety protocols for factories in Karnataka.

Tamil meaning:

protocol = நெறிமுறை, வறைமுறை

உதாரணம்:

கர்நாடகாவில் உள்ள தொழிற்சாலைகளுக்கான பாதுகாப்பு நெறிமுறைகளை அரசு வகுக்கிறது.

20) disruption:

disturbance or problems which interrupt an event, activity, or process.

Example:

For many retailers, the ability to maintain adequate inventory has been significantly affected by a disruption in the global supply chain.

Tamil meaning:

disruption = இடையூறு

உதாரணம்:

பல சில்லறை விற்பனையாளர்களுக்கு, உலகளாவிய விநியோகச் சங்கிலியில் ஏற்பட்ட இடையூறுகளால் போதுமான சரக்குகளை பராமரிக்கும் திறன் கணிசமாக பாதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
